Organic Gardening Business Tip 3: Three Important Questions

Here are 3 questions you may want to answer before you start your Organic gardening business:

1) Are you up to doing everything it takes — accounting, marketing, attending trade shows, etc.—to run a successful business?

Becoming an entrepreneur requires more than just gardening. You will need to be prepared to balance your books, advertise your services and market your products at trade shows, among dozens of other chores. Do not get intimidated if you have never done some of these tasks before; they are relatively easy to learn. But, you do need to be prepared to do them.

2) Do you have a problem asking for or collecting money?

If so, make sure you have a spouse or accountant who will be glad to call and collect on balances. The best way to solve this problem is to ask for at least 50 percent of the produce up front (if not the whole amount).

We are not trying to scare you; 95 percent of the clients you deal with will be good, honest people. But, you are running a business, and every one gets a bad apple from time to time. Be prepared for it!

One of the best tactics you can also do to ensure customer satisfaction on your part is to not treat customers as one time sales opportunities. Think of how much business they can do with you and send your way over the course of a lifetime. If you treat customers like you want their business again, they will more than likely keep buying from you.

3) Are you easily shaken by what other people think?

Hopefully, the answer is already no. But, if it is not, you need to develop a thick skin, simply because there are those who will criticize you and assume you are just staying home and "playing" with your little organic gardening thing.

Do not, however, let other people dissuade you from pursuing your passion; they may just be jealous that they cannot follow their dreams! You owe it to yourself to do what makes you happy, so don't let other people's comments get you down. It takes a great deal of courage to go out on your own. Anyway, you will probably hear more praise than criticisms!
